2004 World Wine Production IncreasesMon 31 Jan 2005
According to the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV) the global world wine harvest in 2004 increased by 9.5%. Overall, Europe produced 20 million hl more wine than in 2003. France produced over 10 hl, while production was up in Italy (+3.5 million hl), Germany (+2.6 million hl), Spain (+1.6 million hl) and Portugal (+0.4 million hl). Production reached 14.5 million hl in Australia, 1.15 million hl in New Zeland and 9 million hl in South Africa. In South America, Argentina was up 1.5 million hl and Brazil by 1 million hl, although production in Chile dropped by 0.9 million hl. Californian wine production fell an estimated 2-5%. |
