Syrah can be Shiraz

Wed 19 May 2004

Onivins, the body that regulates wine labelling in France, has confirmed that French wines made from Syrah grapes will now be able to use term Shiraz on the label. The move is in response to continued strong competition from New World winemaking and is an attempt to remove confusion for customers who do not realise they are drinking the same grape.
