Decanter World Wine Awards 2004

Sun 17 Oct 2004

The inaugural Decanter World Wine Awards 2004 saw many of our wines recognised by the judges.

Both the Valenciso Reserva 1999 and Valenciso Reserva 2000 vintages of our Rioja from Compañia Bodeguera de Valenciso were awarded Silver medals, while from Toro, Bodegas Fariña won a Bronze medal for their Gran Colegiata Reserva 1996.

Caves Fermí Bohigas also received a Commended for its lovely fresh Blanc de Blancs 2003 - quite an achievement, given that Spain isn't really reknowned for its white wines, although we feel we have found a gem here.

Fans of our wines from Utiel-Requena will be delighted to know that Bodegas Virasa Vinícola also had a very successful year, with the Cerro Bercial Reserva 1999 winning a Bronze while their stunning new wine 'El Perdio' 2001 was Commended. This latter wine is definitely one to watch - not really ready for drinking now (although you can and we do after decanting and letting it breathe for a number of hours!), this will be an amazing wine in a few years. Buy some now and keep it if you can.

Congratulations to all our bodegas - we look forward to trying the new vintages in due course!
