According to the March edition of the Consumer Association's Which? Magazine, the majority of major wine brands are a 'big, bland let-down'. After a blind tasting of a Chardonnay and Merlot from each of the UK's top 10 best selling brands, the magazine concluded that a 'worryingly high number were below average and poor performers', with no wines scoring more than 13 out of 20. Which? editor Malcolm Coles said: 'The majority of the big brand wines we tasted were mediocre, and we're not talking about bottles that cost three quid either - some of them sell for £6 or £7.'
